The state also saw the addition of two mini-casinos in York and Berks counties during the fiscal year. The huge 2021-22 revenue increase over the prior year was driven primarily by two factors: the end of COVID-19 restrictions that had hindered brick-and-mortar casino operations the two prior years, and the continued growth in Pennsylvanians’ embrace of online gambling. Here are gaming revenue totals for the last five fiscal years, as reported by the gaming board: With a blended tax rate of 41% when accounting for the different rates applied to the various forms of gaming - which are all among the highest in the nation - Pennsylvania’s state treasury and local governments will receive about $2.05 billion in tax revenue from gaming in 2021-22. The $5,042,967,392 in revenue in the past 12 months was 30% higher than the prior year, which had been the previous high with $3,874,923,386. The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board released reports Tuesday morning summarizing both June’s revenue of $389.8 million and the full July 2021-June 2022 fiscal year that far eclipsed the amount generated in any prior fiscal year from retail and online casinos, sports betting, video gaming terminals, and fantasy sports contests. June was anything but a strong month for Pennsylvania’s gaming industry, generating 13% less revenue than the month before, but it was still enough to help propel the state to its first $5 billion fiscal year from all forms of commercial gambling.
